Brad Pitt talks about his decision to become a father, why he won’t marry Angelina Jolie,

and his past pot-smoking habits. Here’s what 45-year-old Pitt had to say:

On when he’ll marry Angelina Jolie: “I have love in my life, a soul mate–absolutely. When

someone asked me why Angie and I don’t get married, I replied, ‘Maybe we’ll get married

when it’s legal for everyone else.’ I stand by that, although I took a lot of flak for saying

it–hate mail from religious groups. I believe everyone should have the same rights. They say

gay marriage ruins families and hurts kids. Well, I’ve had the privilege of seeing my gay friends

being parents and watching their kids grow up in a loving environment.”

On the right to love: “It’s ridiculous that Prop 8 took away gay people’s right to marry! I have

no understanding of that kind of hatred. Maybe it’s fear of difference or of the unknown. If you

feel belittled, maybe you need someone else to belittle to feel powerful. It’s the only way

I know how to explain it. You’ve got religion telling you what to think about homosexuality,

about marriage. They say homosexuality is a choice, a lifestyle, something you can be cured

of, and that isn’t true. But if you’re tucked away and have no friends who are gay, you’ll

believe what the preachers say. Just think of it in terms of being in love–how would you feel

if someone told you that you couldn’t be with the person you loved?”

On wanting the best for his children: “Would it bother me if a child of mine turns out to be gay?

No, not one bit. Listen, I want my kids to live the lives they want to live. I want them to be

fulfilled. I hope I teach my kids to be who they really are.”

On the secret stone grotto behind the waterfall in his pool: “[It's] a great place for sex.”

On her relationship last year with Brothers & Sisters star Balthazar Getty who was still

married to his wife Rosetta (with whom he has four children): “[The relationship] probably

looked awful. I probably seem like not a particularly nice person, not a girl’s girl.”

On the criticism she received, including someone vandalizing her North London home:

“I do think sometimes people get morally superior without understanding situations And the

situation I got into was not ideal, but it happened and if I could go back and be more responsible,

I would. Well, I probably would be less naive about ignoring the fact that people care. I’ve always

kind of done exactly what my instincts said. I have a good brain on me, but I’ve never really used

it when it came to making decisions about love, which has been a blessing and a curse. I definitely

have been foolish. I’ve made apologies to people I needed to, but I can’t apologize to people I

don’t know for things they don’t understand.”

On her rep of being “sexually manipulative”: “I’m supposed to be this complete slapper,

that’s my reputation. But actually I was in a relationship from 19 to 21 with Dave [Neville];

21 to 24 with Jude Law, [who cheated on her with his kids' nanny]; then 25 to 26 with Rhys

[Ifan], and then Balthazar. And then a few dalliances, three months here and there, but I’ve

never been like a shagger. I’ve actually been kind of single for the past year. I’ve had somebody

on the end of the phone maybe, but I haven’t been living with anyone or been in a proper

relationship, and it’s been really great. I’m completely on my own. I think I’ve grown up a lot.”
